I could not be happier with this experience! I had initially requested the wrong service, David told me up front what I didn't need, gave me a new quote within minutes, then readily took the time to go find the right parts to make sure my car was fixed properly. He even had my account credited for the work I did not need. He took the time to both show me and explain to me how things work and why they go wrong. While he was working, he developed a time frame and quote for service I would need in the future, and gave me maintenance advice. He was very thorough, very knowledgeable and very professional. With David, I got better service at a better price than at any local garage, and it was so convenient. I will recommend YourMechanic and David to everyone!!
David is the best around!! No doubt about it, we had to get our alternator replaced again after a little over a month. The first mechanic in jacksonville didn't correctly fix the problem. David was very honest about what happened and was straight up about everything and what he was doing. Looking back, the previous stars from the other mechanic needs to go to David. Hands down, excellent work! Request David first.

Although he called to say he would be delayed, he was over 2 hours delayed. Once he arrived he did a great job and was very professional. If I had known he would be so delayed I would have done some of my errands earlier. I have already recommended this service to several people in my condo complex and several friends.

He was very professional when he arrived, he introduced himself and after he completed the job he showed me the old part, checked several other things on the car (50 point check), discussed what he found and sent an email on what he recommended to be done! I appreciate him explaining everything that he did! Thank you Mazyar!!!

Andrew is THE BEST! He is professional, courteous and most importantly HONEST. I provided an alternator that wasn't up-to-par and he let me know. He patiently waited for me to return the part, then installed the replacement. Your Mechanic & Andrew saved me at least $700. Andrew will be my 1st choice anytime I have an issue with my car! Thank you for everything you do Andrew! #verysatisfiedcustomer

Jose explained why I didn't really need to replace my alternator but instead replace my battery because it was not holding a charge even. He also checked fluids, tires, etc. He seemed very knowledgeable and his explanation was very clear. I appreciated getting the info that way. I wouldn't have gotten that clear of an explanation from mechanics at a service station because most service stations don't allow customers in the work area.

Alternator Repair Service

How does an alternator help your car run?

The alternator is the component that charges the battery in your car. When you use electrical components in your car (stereo, lights, etc.), the battery loses power. The alternator recharges the battery, replenishing the lost battery power. The alternator is located in the engine compartment. If the alternator is not working properly, your car will only stay running for as long as the battery has power stored. Once the battery loses power, your car will not start. Normally, a malfunctioning alternator will turn on the battery warning light or will have a low volt gauge reading.

Alternator

Before repairing the alternator:

The mechanic should check the entire charging system before installing a new alternator, including checking battery cables for corrosion and the condition of the battery.

Steps when replacing an alternator:

  • Inspect entire charging system (battery, cables, alternator).
  • Inspect the drive belts.
  • Test alternator output.
  • Remove and replace alternator if found to be faulty.
  • Re-test alternator output.

Our recommendation for alternator replacements:

Ask your mechanic to inspect the condition of the charging system during every major service. The mechanic should also clean and tighten the battery cables during every major service.

What common symptoms indicate you may need to replace the Alternator?

  • Dead battery or battery will not hold a charge.
  • Dim lights.
  • Battery warning light is on.

Why repairing your alternator is important:

Your alternator charges your battery, which powers the electronics in your vehicle, such as the radio and the air conditioning. The battery is also needed to turn on your vehicle. A malfunctioning alternator will not charge your car’s battery, and your vehicle will eventually run out of battery life and not be able to start.
