He was timely, honest, professional, and trustworthy. He told me what my car needed to work safely, and not what he needed to make money of me. He was honest, and that is really hard to find in this town anymore.
Even though we didn't have to do the job I had thought, he was nice, and did what he could while he was here. I will call him again when I need something else.

Michael Straub was the mechanic scheduled to repair my vehicle rear brakes. Michael arrived on time and gave me an outline on what to expect from his service. Michael went right to work and informed me my rear brakes were fine just needed to be adjusted and cleaned. Michael did an inspection of my front brakes and he determined that my front brakes are worn and the rotors need to be replaced. He also discovered that the ball/joint was bad and I need new tie rods in the front on left and right sides. I appreciate his professionalism and approaching the situation with a caring attitude. Michael was candid with me about what my vehicle needed for repair. His recommendations were not only for my information, but to inform me of the risks involved if repairs are not made. Thanks Michael!

I'm highly impressed with the quality of work and the time that Jesus spent explaining the repairs to me, as well as a couple issues which were found on inspection. Jesus is honest and trustworthy, I showed him a written report of issues from a local shop and he went through each item and showed me each listed thing... The shop recommended over $1042 worth of work fir my car, most of it not really needed, and Jesus was very honest about what did and didn't need repairing. I feel like I dodged a bullet working with your mechanic over local shops. I will definitely be booking with Jesus again. I feel like I've finally found a mechanic I can trust!

Showed up ahead of scheduled time. Was very knowlegable and honest. Only did repair on the brakes that actually needed to be replaced, not all four.

Adjust Drum Brakes Service

What are drum brakes all about?

In older vehicles (usually ones manufactured before 1999), the rear brakes are drum brakes. The drum is a large medal cylindrical housing with brake shoes attached to it. When you press on the brake pedal, brake fluid helps the brake shoe apply pressure to the brake drum, which slows down your vehicle. Over time, the brake drum will wear thin, as constant friction with the brake shoe wears the drum away. When this happens the drum brakes will need to be adjusted to keep them close to the shoe, so that braking is still efficient.

Keep in mind:

  • Some drum brakes systems adjust automatically.
  • When adjusting the drum brakes it’s important to check the wear and tear on both the drums and the brake shoes, to see when both will need to be replaced.

How it's done:

  • Adjust the rear drum brakes

Our recommendation:

Your entire braking system should be routinely serviced. Each component of your system, including the drum brakes, should be examined during tuneups and servicing, and you should schedule regular inspections for the braking system. The braking system is the most critical safety feature on your vehicle, so you should not postpone brake-related services.

What is a common symptom indicating you need to adjust the drum brakes?

  • Softer brake pedal

How important is this service?

Older cars rely on drum brakes for the rear wheels. Drum brakes are a large, metal cylindrical housing on each wheel that are necessary to help your vehicle slow down or stop. Attached to the drum brakes are the brake shoes. When you deploy the brake pedal, brake fluid runs to the brake shoes, and helps them apply pressure to the brake drums. The friction between the drums and the shoes slows down your vehicle. This constant friction makes the drum brakes thinner over time, as the surface layer of the drum keeps wearing off. As the drums become thinner, the space between them and the shoes grows. This distance means that the shoes do not come into as strong of contact with the drums as they normally do, and the braking system will be less efficient than normal.
