Services by Alex Simpson

I needed brake pads and rotors replaced (front and back for both). Alex completed the work faster than the time window indicated. Also, the work seems good so far. I handled the brakes as mechanics recommend to get the brake pads and rotors to get to know each other. The issue I have is with the individual. 1) When Alex arrived I had to ask him to wear a mask. Initially, he agreed to wear a mask if he had to enter the vehicle briefly, but he refused to do so outside of that since he was outside and it would get in the way while he's working. He then put a neck gaiter, which is about as thick as panty hose. It's like wearing nothing. If this is difficult to wear I think there are bigger issues at hand that were not communicated. He texted back and agreed to cover his face while working. I had a very reasonable request for what I wanted while work was performed on my property. Instead I got actual attitude when I spoke up. 2) I explained to Alex that I could break in the brake pads and rotors after the appointment, since I've done this before. I just couldn't do brake work since I was busy taking care of an baby and multitasking. He interpreted this as meaning that I was a seasoned mechanic. I forgot to place the wheel lock key in a visible location. He called and told me he drove an hour for this and he was unhappy. "You've done this work before. You should know this, right?" I informed him that I never said those words and there was a misunderstanding. I told him to just hang on and I'd figure it out with customer service if the key couldn't be located. I get it, but come on. Mistakes happen. Besides, the key was located. When the work was completed Alex switched back to kind and let me know how to treat the car after the appointment. I already knew how to follow up with the car, but really I just wanted him gone and off my property at that point. Take a look at the home page of yourmechanic.com. You see a mechanic with a face mask and gloves on (as of 4/22/21). This makes one believe that their mechanic will be wearing PPE during a pandemic while they work. When I spoke with a supervisor (Ryan) I was informed that PPE is only recommended. There is no requirement for any mechanic to create a safe work environment for you or your vehicle. I kind of feel like I got the bait and switch. It's a very misleading website, but this is not the only reason I believed that PPE was the norm. I've used Yourmechanic once before in the past. Unfortunately, that mechanic (Larry Wright) was not available. Great customer service, wore a face mask, and did a fantastic job during that appointment. Seems I got the crap end of the stick this time around. I was made to feel like I was doing someone a favor. When I followed up with customer service AND management I was told that since discounts were applied before my appointment took place nothing more could be done. Seriously? No "We'll speak with this mechanic" or "We can offer a partial refund." The poor customer service I received during the appointment and afterwards really ruined my experience with this company. My business will go elsewhere in the future.
