Q: Yellow icon on dashboard permanent

asked by on

Yellow icon will not go out on dashboard why?

My car has 35000 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.

Hi...it depends on which icon you are referring to. If it is the check engine warning light, that light will stay on until the fault detected by the engine computer has been repaired. Once the fault is repaired, the light will sometimes turn off automatically, after so many ignition key cycles, but the light can also be manually reset with a code scanner. If your check engine light is on, I recommend requesting a check engine light diagnostic because the light does signify that there is a problem in the engine. That diagnostic will enable you to see and understand the trouble codes and from those codes the Mechanic can begin the process of figuring out what the malfunction is. The complexity of that diagnostic will simply depend on exactly which codes have set; there are actually thousands of possible trouble codes in any given modern vehicle, some involving more serious faults than others.
