Q: Why did my car only want to move in reverse? Even in drive and neutral? I put it in part and tried to restart and nothing happens.

asked by on November 18, 2017

I have a brand new battery, alternator and starter. Since the weather has been getting colder, occasionally it takes a little longer for the car to turn over. But it drives fine. Lights, radio everything works. When I was leaving the grocery store last night it started right up. Didn't take long to turn over. Reversed out of the parking spot. Put it in drive and it would only reverse. Put it in park and it would reverse. Put it in 3rd would only reverse. Turned it off and tried to restart, nothing. No noise, just the lights and radio all work. But the car doesn't make any noise. Walked home, returned to the store with my husband and pushed it home. While the car was in neutral the reverse lights were on. Please tell me it won't be an expensive fix. Our van is currently not in driving order either. So at the moment, this car is our only transportation.

My car has 125000 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.
