Q: Truck starts then dies

asked by on June 29, 2017

The truck starts and dies soon after. It stays on a bit longer if I give it some gas but turns off as soon as I let go.

It seems that the truck starts worse when the engine is already hot and occasionally it sputters a bit when I first start to drive.

My car has an automatic transmission.

AC not working and car overheating.
The AC and cooling are two separate systems, so these are likely two separate issues. That is unless, your serpentine belt is misadjusted or broken. Both the AC and water pump are driven off this belt. A trained technician, like...
Right front tire making noise
For this case, I would need a bit more information to give you a precise answer. A couple things that come to mind are cupped tires or a bad wheel bearing. Both of these items would cause a rotational noise...
After adding fuel additive, SUV performed badly
I would suggest checking the EGR valve (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/symptoms-of-a-bad-or-failing-exhaust-gas-recirculation-egr-valve) (exhaust gas recycle). Inside your motor, temperatures can reach 2500 degrees. This is when the EGR valve is needed. When engine temperature is slightly cooler, such as when idling, the EGR valve...
Intermittent burning smell in the car
Hello. It sounds possible that there was some leftover fluid from a repair completed previously that is now leaking on the exhaust and causing a burning smell in your car (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/smell-in-the-car-inspection). There could also be a very small or slow...

My car has idling problems that come and go
The biggest problem with inconsistent engine idle issues is trying to diagnose them. However, there are a few other components you haven't listed that might be faulty. The first is the throttle position sensor (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/throttle-position-sensor-replacement). It's likely your Mitsubishi has...
I hear a water sound after I had the heater core replaced
The water gurgling sound (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/car-is-making-a-noise-inspection) is most likely that the heater core and engine cooling system still has a lot of air moving through the cooling system. You should turn on the heater all the way to hot so coolant...
Brake rotors
What you are describing is a sign of warped brake rotors. As you may know, when you press on your brake pedal, this activates a hydraulic pressure which forces small pistons inside your brake calipers (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/brake-pads-replacement) to push the brake...
My car makes a short squeak noise when I start it. Lasts about half a second. My cousin pointed it out and since then I’m worried.
Squeaking is often drive belt or pulley related but in your case the starter motor would have to be considered as well. If the starter turns, or you hear significant noise at starting, but the engine literally is not turning...
