Q: Fuel pump

MY 2002 corvette randomly shuts off ,I think its a fuel pump problem cuz when it shuts off and i try to start it again I dont hear the fuel pump come on when i turn the key back on after it stalls out crank it and it does nothing ,wait a bit,turn the key on and off a dozen times then the fuel pump noise then it fires up then ok ,sometimes,then shuts back off so try again till it decides to run,????could it be the little elect box in the fuse box under the hood I think its the fuel pump relay box ,but not sure didnt replace it yet but its the cheapest part to try that I know .???like 12 bucks ???what else could it be??
