Q: What is the process of diagnosing where the problem is with my power steering so that I can fix it.

asked by on January 26, 2017

1st of all i need someone who is familiar with this hybrid electrical system. My daughter was parking the car and instead of putting in reverse put in drive & hit a brick column on the front drivers side panel, damaging the front quarter panel, side of headlight assembly that touches panel as well as the bumper in that area. the power steering quit working at that moment. The power steering recall has previously been performed on this vehicle. my thoughts are that the impact caused this of course. Took to dealership &"master tech" is doing diagnostic(taking outseats and carpet etc) and is now up to over$900 without specifically being able to tell me what the problem is but that i'll need to replace the power steering ECU(another $900) and they will go from there.Saying that might be the problem If the impact is on the front corner panel then why didnt they check or scan for problem codes in that area first considering the Power Steering ECU, motor & sensor is closet to where impact was

My car has 103000 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.
