What do the safety belt reminder lights mean?

The safety belt reminder lights are on your instrument control panel, and alert you when you or the front passenger are not wearing a seatbelt. If the driver or the passenger is not wearing their seatbelt when the engine is started, the respective safety belt reminder light will illuminate (the passenger safety belt reminder light looks like the driver light, but with a 2 next to it), and the system will chime. When the seatbelt is buckled, the light will turn off and the chime will stop. Tip Your car automatically detects when there is a passenger in the front passenger seat. If you have groceries or a dog in the front seat, the system may think there is a person there, and the safety belt reminder light and chime will go on. To stop this, either buckle the seatbelt, or move the items off of the seat.
