Q: Was going down highway saw some exhaust small then alot. Now car will move into gears but not click into gears

Yesterday afternoon driving down highway see so.e smoke coming out then from there it just stopped moving. Will go into gear but not click into gear. Just makes reeving noise. Is my transmission done?
My car has an automatic transmission.
