Q: Vehicle shut down overheat protective mode won't go off after fix

asked by on November 14, 2017

Here's what's going on. I was driving home and my Tahoe shut off. When I tried to crank it it ran extremely rough and only for a few seconds would not idle. after walking home and getting a ride back to my vehicle it cranked just long enough I could get a quarter mile to my house running extremely rough as if it was missing. I dug out my code reader and it read p1258 overheat protection mode active. I replaced the coolant temperature sensor then left the negative cable off for 2 hours. The codes are gone along with the check engine light but it still cranks up and runs extremely rough and shuts off after just a moment and then will not turn back over.

My car has 150000 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.

Misfire still after tuneup

The fuel pressure regulator (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/fuel-pressure-regulator-replacement) may have failed, or is not getting the proper vacuum signal. Knocking from the axle or wheel hub, but no play!

Will not attempt to start. Engine has spark. Also noticed oil was in the intake tube.
Hi there. Check to see if the fuel injectors are working. You can back probe them with a digital meter and see if the voltage is being metered. If the injectors (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/fuel-injector-replacement) are working, then check the crankshaft position sensor...
Rough idle, possible misfire, bad oxygen sensor a possible cause
There are a number of things that can cause a misfire to be present, but a failing oxygen sensor is certainly one of them. As you know the oxygen sensor (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/oxygen-sensor-replacement) reads the exhaust gases and relays this information to...
