Q: Trouble starting

asked by on June 09, 2016

Recently started doing this. I will go to push the start button and it does not start. It only goes to power on mode. If I wiggle the shifter and then go to push the button it does start. I have had the battery, starter and alternator checked and all are good.

My car has 54000 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.

Intermittent issue where after a stop car is stuck in first, speedometer at zero. Had output speed sensor changed, no change.
Hello there, a few possible faults could cause the vehicle to become stuck in first. The most common would be low fluid level, shift solenoid, transmission range sensor, or a transmission mechanical fault. I'd suggest getting this looked at by...
Steering wheel locked while going around curve
I would suspect that the steering is electronic and something was not making contact when you were going over the bumps and caused the steering to lock. It could also be a programming issue or a steering sensor issue. Have...
How do I fix the timing when it has jumped timing
There is no easy way to correct a jumped timing belt. You will need to disassemble a portion of the engine to gain access to the belt tensioner, so you can move the belt back into position. I suggest replacing...
I can't drive at high speeds without the car shaking
Hi there. Your vehicle shaking over 60 km could be caused by several things. The possibilities include: tire separation and/or balance issues, bad shocks (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/air-shocks-replacement), bad springs (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/air-springs-replacement), and possible driveline issues (u-joints, etc.). Securing the ramp/tailgate may be in...
My 2009 Nissan Altima won't start. I press the brakes and and push the start button and the inside of the car comes on.
Hi there: Although it's possible that a faulty brake switch is the reason why your Altima won't start, it's also possible that the starter, starter relay, ignition relay or ignition module on your 2009 Nissan is damaged or faulty. The...
Changed the oil yesterday. Started car this morning and it is pouring out white smoke. Gasket? Too much oil? Not losing coolant
The 5W-30 oil should be removed from the engine because that viscosity is not recommended for your car. However, the wrong viscosity oil does not account for the smoke. You can verify whether the oil level is too high, or...
My engine coolant light is coming on and after hitting a pot hole my thermostat light pops on, and after a few miles car run hot
Hi there. It is quite possible that you may have damaged the radiator when hitting the pot hole. Although there are protective shields located under the radiator itself, they are typically very thin and made of plastic in most cases....
Smoke from engine cooling fan
It's not unusual for a fan to fail, and you can probably get away with replacing just that. But since the fan seized, there may be a blown fuse or fusible link back in the system that will also have...
I have a 2013 nissan altima 2.5 SL and it's for some reason heating up but everything seems fine I have liquids in it whats problm
Based on your description it sounds like your engine is overheating. Be sure not to drive the car if it is overheating because overheating can warp the cylinder head and/or engine block causing costly damage. The most common causes of...
