Q: Transmission engine comparability

asked by on

I'm buying an engine that's hooked up to a 700r4 will that engine bolt up to a th400? I have the th400 hooked up to a big block at the moment
My car has an automatic transmission.

Hey there. As long as the engine you have currently bolted to the 700R4 is NOT a 4 cyl or V6, it should bolt up to the TH400. TH350s, TH400s (except those in a Jeep), and 700R4s (except as noted above) share a common bell housing bolt pattern for Chevy, Pontiac, Olds, and Buick.
