My truck has 155k plus miles. It's a 4x4. It quit running, but the engine sounds fine, so we figured out it's a drive train problem - transmission or rear differential. The mechanic that looked at it wants me to send it to another shop and they think it will cost $1800 to fix it, but that's not a hard number until they look at it. I've been thinking of trading it in anyway, and it's worth $6,500 - $7,000 according to more than one online site based on make, model, miles, wear, etc. But that's before this mechanical issue. My question is should I get it fixed and then trade it in, or trade it in "as is"?
