Q: Stop light switch burnt out

asked by on

The stop light switch behind the brake pedal has burnt out completely. I cannot shift out of park.

A: The brake light switch will have to be repl...

The brake light switch will have to be replaced. The powertrain computer monitors the brake light switch in order to determine if the brake is pressed in before allowing the transmission to be electronically shifted out of park. My recommendation would be to enlist the help of a mechanic, such as one from YourMechanic, replace the brake light switch.
