Hi there. Chances are, the inoperative speedometer in your vehicle is a broken speedometer cable. Typically, screeching noise is heard inside the vehicle prior to the speedometer cable failure. It could also be, the speedometer driven gear or speedometer head has failed. Disconnecting the speedometer cable at the transmission extension housing and manually turning the cable could help diagnose the problem. I recommend having your vehicle’s inoperative speedometer be diagnosed and repaired by a certified technician, such as one from YourMechanic.
