Q: Sounds from engine while at idle

asked by on December 10, 2016

When I pull up to a stop light the engine makes a continuous intermittent sound. It almost sounds to me like a rub or worn bearings as they pass a certain point in their travel. I am thinking a water pump, but have no substantial basis for this thought. It has been going on for a little while now. I have previously replaced the thermostat due to a "Check engine light" but the sound was there before and remains. The Check Engine light has extinguished.

My car has 160000 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.
