Q: I have a shaking and knocking coming from the front of my 2003 Audi A6

asked by on April 25, 2017

Soo, when I bought my car I was driving it home and the steering wheel started to get a little shaky when I hit 60mph but stopped at 70mph.. I passed it off thinking unbalaced tire or bad rotors. While I went around a curve the whole vehicle felt shaky. Now when I turn the wheel and start driving to do a "Y" turn there is a knock in the front. Not sure if I should be looking into control arms, struts, cv axles, or ball joints. I'm pretty lost, any help is greatly appreciated

My car has 145000 miles.

The code you are getting is a lack of communication from or to the body control module. The problem has been fixed by other owners by replacing the ignition switch (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/ignition-switch-replacement) on some vehicles and had to replace the body...
I accidentally drained the transmission fluid on my car
It's not at all likely that you damaged the transmission as long as it wasn't started. Technically, you can put the CVT fluid back in, but it needs to be done from the same hole it was drained from. This...
The battery light and the emergency brake light illuminate when I turn on the car. The car shakes when they are on.
Hello and thank you for your question. Check your alternator for voltage at low idle and when the engine is at 3,000 rpm. It sounds like the alternator is not producing enough voltage at a low rpm. The battery light...
Master cylinder went out, now there is a loud noise coming from the brakes.
Brake noises are not generally associated with the master cylinder. A failed master cylinder (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/brake-master-cylinder-replacement) can cause a low or spongy brake pedal but generally does not make any noises. If however you hear a loud hissing sound when the...
My car is using lot of water and i don't know why.
Hi there. First check the oil in the engine. See if the oil is milky and not dark in color. If the oil is milky, then there is either a head gasket that is burned and putting the coolant into...
Yaw rate sensor problem? 2009 Chevy Impala SS
Hello - "yaw" means the amount of rotation or twist from a vertical axis, or how much your car "leans" to the outside of a curve when cornering. The yaw rate sensor (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/symptoms-of-a-bad-or-failing-yaw-rate-sensor) provides input to stability control and anti-skid...
My car will not start. It is completely dead (zero power), is it my alternator?
A failed alternator is a possibility, and is among the components that would be checked first, but it is not the only possibility. Charging system output should be verified against factory specifications. To have the alternator inspected and replaced, if...
2012 audi a4 quatro, cylinder 2 misfires
The variance in cylinder compression you are reporting exceeds that allowed in the Factory Service Manual. Put oil in the No. 2 cylinder to see if compression rises appreciably and you can then rule in or out leaks past the...
Car jerking when coming to a stop
Hi Samantha. Thanks for sending us a question tonight. Braking hard is very "hard" on vehicle suspension, steering and brake system components, so it's actually kind of common for a car to jerk a bit when you brake hard. However,...
