Q: Sonata '11 hesitates/jumpy at ~1800rpm or 38-45mph, also when cold and taking turns. Tuneup done. Not wheel related...any ideas?

asked by on July 08, 2017

Hi y'all.

For the last three months, my car (suddenly) started to hesitate and feel sluggish. It almost feels jumpy when I'm driving. It's not spark plugs, coils, wheels or tire related (aligned, rotated and balanced). Throttle body and intake system was cleaned also. No codes or CEL at all.

I've noticed it mostly at around 1800 RPM, and at around 40mph. No weird shifts or strangeness from the transmission. It sometimes feels like suspension, but even in neutral, and parked, it seems to happen at 1800.

Any suggestions would be great!

My car has 145000 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.

Trunk not latching
It sounds to me like the latching mechanism isn't doing its job properly, probably requiring replacement. I would have a certified mechanic, such as one from YourMechanic, verify the issue and replace the latch (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/trunk-latch-replacement) if necessary.

Serpentine belt broke. Dealer is telling me it can wrap around crank and get into engine. What are the odds of that happening?
There is a possibility the belt can wrap around pulleys and the crank. I have seen pieces of belt get behind pulleys and a/c compressor clutches or crankshaft pulleys. If the mechanic inspects the old broken belt they can see...
Car stuck in reverse kinda
The symptoms you describe suggests that the linkage between the shifter and the "gear position indicator" (PRNDL) is no longer correctly connected, and possibly the neutral safety switch/transmission range selection sensor (don't know which since you did not indicate the...
Brake fluid on the inside of my tire
Hey there. Leaking brake fluid onto the back of the tire on this vehicle is going to be only a couple different things. The brake caliper piston seals [https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/brake-caliper-replacement] or the flexible brake line connection or hose is leaking. This...
Can a car jump start with a bad fuel pump?
Jump starting due to a bad battery will not make a bad fuel pump start working. I would recommend replacing a bad battery and then doing a thorough diagnosis of the fuel system to diagnose the fuel pump not working....

I have a very slow leak coming from the transfer case.
The most common leak from the transfer case is the rear output shaft seal. Of course, the condition of the bushing and/or bearing at that location will have to be verified because excessive play will make it impossible for the...
