Q: shifting

asked by on June 04, 2017

So I will be driving along at different speeds sometimes the engine will rev even going around thirty five mph but the transmission will not shift and it is not only at thirty five mph it just randomly picks a speed and does it but not all the time either. I know the transmission is slipping my question is is it cheaper to have my old one rebuilt or just replaced? If replaced should I go refurbished or new? Oh also, where the drive shaft connects to the rear end makes a very loud click when shifting into gears from park to neutral to reverse to drive mostly from drive to reverse and back.

My car has 96875 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.

Normal to have to add oil before next change
If your car is not leaking the oil, most likely the car is burning the oil. This can mean a couple of different things. A PCV Valve (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/pcv-valve-hose-replacement) (Positive Crankcase Ventilation) that is not functioning correctly will cause the engine...
My car dies while driving and now it won't even crank. The lights still come on though.

Battery or Charging system problem
This may suggest a failing voltage regulator. I put a fuel injector cleaner in my car and had been stalling at a stop and lags when I'm driving. New fuel filter, still stalling out.
For the condition of the engine rpm's changing either the Idle Air Control valve is not working properly and needs cleaned out or the EGR valve is sticking causing the engine to bog down and stall out. I recommend taking...
