Q: Rumbling sound when I accelerate

asked by on February 04, 2018

I have a 1998 Toyota Regius van, with about 160,000 miles on it. I have recently had most of the suspension replaced - drive shaft / CV joints, tie rods, lower ball joints, bushings, etc.

Now that I am no longer hearing those sounds, I am hearing a new sound. When I am driving, when I accelerate, I hear a sort of rhythmic rumbling sound from under the car (I can't tell if it is engine or suspension or what). It doesn't matter what kind of surface I am driving on, either. When I go faster, the noise gets faster, but as soon as I take my foot off the gas, the noise stops, no matter how fast I am going. And when I accelerate again, it starts again. If I rev the engine in park or in neutral, it doesn't make the noise.

My car has 160000 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.
