Q: Power steering leak

asked by on June 02, 2017

Hey, question..... if you looked at a car and the power steering was leaking and using brake fluid to clean the area if it appeared to be coming from the power steering pressure switch would you recommend only changing that part or would you recommend changing both the switch and the pressure line? I ask because I had a leak and I knew it was the power steering because of the noise... I took it to a shop and they tell me it's the pressure switch so 200$ later it's fixed. I pick up the car, he says no leaks... I get home park it in my stall, put a piece of white card board under it and come out an hour later and there is already a big spot.. it took exactly a week before the noise came back when turning the wheel which is exactly how it was before I took it in. The leak was as if NOTHING was fixed. So I take it back in today and this time they pressure wash it, then look and tell me and show me that it's leaking from the pressure switch which is right next to it.. maybe an inch from it

My car has 17700 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.

How do I expand the display?

Car overheats, usually in the stop and go traffic
The problem may be due to the hydraulic cooling (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/how-a-car-s-cooling-system-works) fan not working intermittently. There is a technical bulletin number 1-21-11 that says to replace the cooling fan hydraulic motor (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/symptoms-of-a-bad-or-failing-cooling-radiator-fan-motor), which should correct the overheating problems. Your fan may...

My rear left turn signal will not work and I have replaced the bulb and checked the fuse.
Hey there. The most likely problem is the bulb holder / socket itself. It may look fine but probably has a crack or break internally. Also possible (but rare) is the circuit board within the tail lamp housing itself. I...
Check engine light P0302
Hello there, thanks for your question. I'd be happy to help. It does sound like a bad ignition coil (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/symptoms-of-a-bad-or-failing-ignition-coil) is the cause of this P0302 trouble code (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/p0302-obd-ii-trouble-code-cylinder-2-misfire-detected-by-jamahl-walker). This is not uncommon since your car has over 100,000 miles....
Had the tires rotated and now there is a slight jerkiness in the steering at low speed during turns.
I believe your problem is as simple as having your tires re-balanced and having an alignment done on your car. I wouldn't go too far in depth with this issue at this point because it doesn't seem too serious at...
I have a Cadillac SRX, 2016, do need the following services done and if so when, Differential service and transfer case service?
Hi There, Your differential fluid (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/differential-gear-oil-replacement) should be changed about every 30,000 miles. You may however also want to at least have the differential cover inspected for leaks during every service in between. Since your car only has 12,000 miles...
My Mercedes 2011 W212 coolant tank water is leaking into the Cylinder number 2
If you are sure that the leak is into an actual cylinder in the cylinder block, then obviously some disassembly will be required to pinpoint the cause and effect the required repairs. If the leak is due to a defective...
