Q: overheating

asked by on September 24, 2017

My car started to overheat while driving. I checked the coolant and the levels were low, so I filled it up and not a long period of time later it was draining down. I can smell the coolant as if it were leaking somewhere on the motor or a hot spot but even when it is full, I still can't drive it for more than 5 minutes, unless it's the early morning and cooler than about 75 degrees outside. I figured get a new thermostat, but it seems that there are 2 of them for my car. Do I replace both, and if so how much of a pain is it to do myself?

My car has 158000 miles.
My car has a manual transmission.

Why do some cars with AUTO headlights not turn on the taillights also?
Hello, thank you for writing in. The automatic lights you are referring to are likely the Daytime Running Lamps (DRLs). These are an automatic safety feature that is more for other drivers around you than for your driving comforts. This...
