Q: Overheating and blowing cold air

My truck blew a upper radiator hose. I replaced the hose and it ran below operating temp and didnt put out any real heat...luke warm air..but its negitive 15 out...i want heat. So...first thought was thermostat...tested it in a boiling pot of water...opened as it should. Put it in and now the truck overheats and only blows cold air...i purged the system for a good 20 minutes with radiator cap off...but now when i try to purge after about 20 min of ideling and getting up to normal operating temp the coolant comes puking out the filler neck...any help?
