Q: Oil filter housing turns with filter.

asked by on

Trying to change oil filter. When i turn filter, whole housing turns and filter will not come off.

My car has 18000 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.

I would get a strap wrench and try to hold the housing with it while loosening the filter cap. Sometimes these caps are hard to remove. If you are still having trouble, a certified technician, like one from YourMechanic, will be able to remove the filter for you and complete the oil change.
