Q: Not able to reverse.

asked by on

My car will not go in reverse. When in reverse it acts as if it is in neutral. I can drive forward just not backwards. How much would it cost to rebuild the transmission or get the reverse gear fixed? Or should I get a new car?

My car has 155000 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.

Hi there, There are a few ways this can happen and one instance may be the connection between the shifter handle and transmission being loose or damaged. Consider having the vehicle checked over by a professional from YourMechanic to determine the cause of the problem
