Q: new air cleaner - what about the air intake?

asked by on February 10, 2018

I've just installed a new K&N Custom Air Cleaner in my classic 1973 Mustang. However, the old air cleaner was directly connected to the large air intake tubes from the front. I've removed the tubes now because they new air cleaner is "open" (the filter is exposed on the sides of it) so I wonder if I need to do something about the air intake?
My car has an automatic transmission.

The vacuum pump (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/vacuum-pump-replacement) was the source of the oil in all probability. Also, check the wastegate vacuum lines for any signs of oil. If there's any question then I'd suggest replacing them too. If you'd like a fresh set...
