Q: My power window went down with a loud clicking noise then wouldn’t go back up. I had to pull it up.

asked by on December 03, 2017

My driver side power window has been working fine until tonight when it gave out. When I put down the window there was a loud rapid clicking noise and then the window wouldn’t go back up. Press down the button, clicking noise. Pull up, no noise, no action either. Wondering in it’s the motor or regulator. Motor was replaced about 5 yrs ago.

My car has 220000 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.

Low oil pressure
Only a couple of things could cause this issue. Low oil is the most likely cause and under that would be a bad oil pump. The first thing I would do is check the oil level. If the oil level is...
Car won't stay on
Your vehicle is known to have two common issues related to this. The fuel pump could be weak, in which case a fuel pressure test should be performed. Also, the MAF sensor (mass airflow) could be reading weak. A diagnostic...
No power after battery replacement
Hi, if you have a new battery and there is still no power coming to the car then there is a chance the main fuse has blown. This fuse protects the main electrical components from surges in power and will...
vibrations and steering wheel shimmy/shake between 45-60 MPH.
Hey there, thanks for writing in. You may want to have the CV (constant velocity) joints and axles (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/axle-cv-shaft-assembly-replacement) inspected. When these wear out or become damaged in any way, this can cause a vibrating problem at both high speeds...
Car starts, then stalls in one second.
Hi there. This can be a computer issue, but from the codes and the issue it sounds more like a voltage problem. If there is low voltage from a bad battery (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/battery-replacement) or a bad connection then the vehicle will...
Hello, i own a bmw 335i n55, AT, recently i replaced the sparkplugs and one coil. Since then i have the code P112f. When start up
This code indicates a manifold absolute pressure to throttle valve angle discrepancy. This means that there is some confusion between the mass airflow sensor (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/mass-airflow-sensor-replacement), the throttle position sensor (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/throttle-position-sensor-replacement), and the manifold absolute pressure sensor (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/manifold-absolute-pressure-sensor-map-sensor-replacement). It is possible...
My 08 Honda Accord was reset recently after going into limp mode
Hi Daniel. Thanks for writing in today. Typically the limp mode will be activated when there is a driveline system failure, such as the transmission. However, it is possible for the limp mode to trigger when a major component like...
When replacing driveshaft , do I also have to replace the cv axle ? And do I need to replace the Ball joint ?
The driveshafts (aka, "axles") on your vehicle are CV type axles. If a CV axle were replaced (there is one on each side of the car), it is replaced as a unit with both inboard and outboard CV joints already...
Worse case scenario if the electronic throttle has to be replaced about how much would it cost
The best course of action would be to have a diagnosis first since the throttle control may be limited if you are having a system or sensor failure in the drivetrain like a transfer case or transmission issue. You may...
