Q: my gmc jimmy 4x4 stopped working

asked by on March 20, 2017

4x4 stuck in 4wd, almost positive the transfer case was broke. while going down the road, it started making a really high pitch noise sounding like the rpms were revving way too high (i was in traffic i did not look down at the rpms i just let off the gas and tried again) then it sounded like something dropped, and no more power. pulled over, no parking brake. towed it back to my work, and turned it on. it starts right up, but when i put it in gear, it grinds and you can never feel it shift into the gear. after a couple of months, i turned her over again and she doesnt grind, but she doesnt shift into gear either. my question is exactly what all would need to be replaced?
My car has an automatic transmission.
