Q: My car is over heating after hitting a brick on the hwy

asked by on September 15, 2017

Last night a truck dropped a brick and I didn't see it in enough time, so I hit it. I thought I just ran over it but no damage was done to my tire and when I hit it the car made a loud thud, so I know it hit something on my car, because not even 10 minutes later it started over heating and now the air isnt cold and when I turn on the car, it over heats if Im stationary or moving slow in traffic, but it also sounds like something in knocking in my car, it isnt consistant but every now and then it sounds as if Im hitting something again but under my hood, I can only hear it when I am parked with the car on. I put new coolant in it and it doesnt seem to help, my boyfriend checked to see if something was leaking but couldnt see anything, so Im not sure what happened

My car has 126641 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.

Hello. Thank you for writing in. Looking to the spark system for a no start (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/car-is-not-starting-inspection) situation. The screw driver trick is one way to test for spark. This is not the safest way to test, but does work. Once...
How much to repair a u-joint on 2009 bmw 328i all wheel drive x drive? 2009 BMW 328xi
Hello - I believe, from your symptoms, that you have either a bad flex disk (https://www.yourmechanic.com/parts/drive-shaft-flex-joint), or a bad transmission mount. The flex disk connects the transmission to the front of the (rearward-facing) driveshaft. It is a giant rubber/fiber doughnut,...
Cylinder heads
If you only need a complete, re-manufactured cylinder head, that will be more economical than replacing the entire engine. On your car, replacing the cylinder head is 1/6th the cost of replacing the entire engine. There is one caveat though...
