Q: My car is breaking down.

asked by on September 11, 2017

So today Sept11,2017 my car starts to mess up. I am on my way to drop my fiance off while we are on the freeway my car starts to jerk a little. Then a symbol on my dashboard pops up. It kinda looks like a wrench tool right after my car starts to slow down. No matter how much i stepped on the peddle the car continued to slow down. We then pull over turn car off for 1 min then turned it back on amd continued our way. I made it there and home safe but the car continued to jerk but didnt slow back down after that. I then drive the car later that day to my mom i made it there with just the car jerking but on the way back it slowed down about 5 times. I mean i would slam on the peddle to try to get it to pick back up but it dont work. Also when i have to turn the car off and turn it back on again it would sound like i had a dead battery and the car would take a min to start. It now made my check engine light come on. What could be the problem.
My car has an automatic transmission.
