Q: My BMW won't turn, I just hear click, click and the fuel pump grinding after push Start button? Do you have experience work with B

asked by on March 22, 2017

One morning after starting the car, I saw the gear with exclamation mark, the Iscreen said "Transm. malfunction - The malfunction maybe resolved by restarting. Contact nearest BMW center if necessary. Use emerg. release to disengage park detent". I tried to shift the steptronic shifter out of P but it kept going back to Park. Several times it shifted to N and stay there. Other time it shifted to D or R for 30 seconds and then went back to P. I then bought an used Strepronic shifter to replace it. But I didn't know just because I started the engine so many times to test the shifter but when I replace with the used steptronic shifter, I wouldn't crank the starter. I only heard 2 clicks and fuel pump grinding when I push the start button. If I push the start button subsequently, I would hear nothing until the Key fob was out and reinsert it, push the start button, I then hear 2 clicks for the first pushing the start button only. I put the original shifter back and it happen the same.

My car has 236000 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.
