Q: My AC is messing up after heavy hauling.

asked by on September 27, 2017

I was pulling my travle trailer about a 100 miles. The air started getting hot and i could turn it off and back on it would work for a bit. After i parked the trailer it would quit every now and then finally it worked normally for about 2 months. Then it just completely quit blowing cold air. When you turn the AC you can hear the truck idle higher like it turned on. Im taking it to a mechanic tomorrow to have him drain the AC system then i will be replacing compressor but i need to know if this is the problem before i change it.

My car has 155508 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.

Car jerking and hard to start
I wouldn’t jump the gun and replace O2 sensors yet. When the engine is cold and first starts, the O2 sensors are not used until they warm up. A poorly running engine, and/or exhaust leaks, can cause false O2 codes....
ran out of oil and wont start
Hello. If the oil was completely empty, then you may have a serious engine failure. I would first add oil (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/car-is-hard-to-start-inspection) to it and then try starting it. If it still does not start and makes a lot of noise...
2500 RPM idle on cold start. Is this normal? If not, then is it due to a cold start injector?
A higher than normal idle can be due to a stuck open idle control valve or a vacuum leak in the intake when the engine is cold. You may have a bad cold start injector system. I would recommend having...
RPMs fall when using higher octane fuel, 2005 Hyundai Elantra
As you may know, the compression ratio of your engine determines the octane rating of the gas you must use in the car. Higher octane fuel prevents the air-fuel mixture from igniting before the spark plug does it. Firing the...
TCS (Traction Control System) light is sometimes on
Hello, most often this problem is due to a dirty or faulty wheel speed sensor (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/wheel-speed-sensor-replacement). Wheel speed sensors provide critical information to both the ABS and traction control systems (TCS). To determine which wheel speed sensor is bad (or...
Fuel range indicator says I can drive 180 miles until empty. I drive half a mile and the indicator already says 165 miles left. What's wrong?
This calculation your car performs is a constantly varying calculation due to a couple of things. One part of this calculation is based upon the driving habits of the driver and how the throttle is used in combination with how...
Jeep dies while driving

Squeaking from the front driver side
What you are describing sounds like a bad or worn out ball joint. A ball joint is designed to pivot through multiple planes. Of course, because the ball joint constantly pivots at different angles, it tends to wear out more...
My my 01 pt cruiser died while in reverse backing up what could cause this?
There may be a couple different causes and would first need to see if problem was caused by the transmission or the engine. Have the transmission and engine scanned for stored codes to see if there is an internal transmission...
