Q: my 2007 pt cruiser should be getting 29 mpg highway but only gets about 20 if im lucky

i recently bought a 2007 pt cruiser and the highway mpg should be 29 but i only get about 20 if im lucky. my check engine light comes on when i run my ac but my mechanic said it just needs to be serviced. i don’t know how to improve my mpg but i need to.

My car has 189000 miles.
