My 2000 Nissan Frontier that has 214,000 miles on it and is in decent working order. I have to drive to Washington DC from Los Angles. Would it be okay/safe enough to take this vehicle on a cross country trip and then back to the midwest? Or should I get another vehicle? I need your opinion please and thank you!

Also, I'm looking at buying a 2004 F-150 supercharged truck. However it only gets 10-12 miles to the gallon. Is there anything I could do to make it get better gas mileage?

My car has 214000 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.
