Q: My 07 Saturn Aura ran too hot and turned off now it won't stay started. At first it turned on for a little while but cut right off

asked by on October 16, 2017

My car runs hot because my bottom radiator hose has a hole. So my car was running hot completely out of water while I was on the freeway so I got off the exit drove maybe 7 minutes and let it sit for about 10 Minutes and then I left it ran for about 15 more minutes and then it turned off before I reached the gas station . I let it sit for about 15 minutes and then I pushed it and proceeded to fill it up with water . The oil is full , the water has a slow leak but it's at a decent level as well . For the first hour the car wouldn't crank at all , then it finally cranked up but it would only stay started while my foot was on the gas , after about 30 minutes it finally cranked up and stayed on without me pushing the gas. While it was on its making this terrible sound and you can see the engine jumping, it stayed on for about 3 minutes and turned back off.

My car has 175399 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.

Fix your exhaust (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/exhaust-system-hanger-replacement) and coil packs (https://www.yourmechanic.com/parts/ignition-coil) first, because if you'd want to get everything running right and your exhaust is leaking, that messes with your air flow out of the exhaust, which makes the oxygen sensors respond weirdly...

Hi there. It sounds like there is a possibility of a fault with the MAP sensor system (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/manifold-absolute-pressure-sensor-map-sensor-replacement) for the P0108 code (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/-p0108-obd-ii-trouble-code-manifold-air-pressure-map-barometric-pressure-sensor-circuit-high-voltage-input-problem-by-john-nelson), an EGR fault for the P0401 (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/p0401-obd-ii-trouble-code-exhaust-gas-recirculation-flow-malfunction-by-jay-safford), and a catalytic converter (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/catalytic-converter-replacement) fault for the P0420 code...
My car is making a grinding noise. Could it be the harmonic balancer?

Car shaking/vibrating on right side while accelerating or at a constant speed
If there is no vibration in the steering wheel, the origin of the vibration/shaking is unlikely to be front tires, wheels, or suspension. Vibration felt through the floorboard (or gas pedal in your case) is usually due to tire imbalance,...
