Q: Leaf broke while driving

asked by on November 03, 2015

I have a 2009 Toyota Tacoma with only 71,000 miles on it. A leaf spring broke when I was driving the other day. If I had been carrying something important or had the road been slippery, I could have been in a serious accident. I am pretty disappointed. How does a truck this new have this problem? Is it a quality problem?

Can't shift gears
This is a common issue. There are several components that can fail to prevent the shifting out of park. The interlock system has two things that often fail, the switch itself and the electronic interlocking mechanism itself. If the switch...
Can't shift out of park when brakes are fully applied
This issue seems to me like it would be caused by the brake switch (https://www.yourmechanic.com/parts/brake-light-switch). When the brake switch is engaged, the brake lights come on. There is also a shift interlock solenoid (https://www.yourmechanic.com/parts/shift-interlock-solenoid) in most vehicles that is not...

My Jaguar XJ8 is running extremely rough
Being that your car is running better with the MAF disconnected, I say replace your MAF (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/mass-airflow-sensor-replacement). Most cars would shut off without the MAF connected. If you need a technician to scope out the problem in person, a certified...
What causes the ignition relay fuse to pop when key it's turned to the start position
Hello - You likely have a shorted coil (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/ignition-coil-replacement) or ignition module. One of the ignition components is pulling too much current blowing the fuse (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/fuse-replacement). Check the coils and ignition module for shorts or other conditions drawing too much...
Will it be okay if I switched my oil from synthetic to blended?
The effect on engine wear, efficiency of operation, and service life (i.e., engine service life) due to a switch to a blended synthetic oil from a full synthetic oil is probably not even "measurable". Full synthetics will be less subject...
