Q: Is spending $6000 for repairs too much on a 2006 Navigator

asked by on June 14, 2017

I was told that the likely reason for my vehicle running rough was the timing chain. $6000+ to repair. Is this too much to spend on a 2006 Navigator with 172000 miles?

My car has 172000 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.

My MAP sensor failed I replaced it then it failed again in one day
Hi and thanks for contacting YourMechanic. This issue is not the MAP sensor (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/manifold-absolute-pressure-sensor-map-sensor-replacement), but rather the mass air flow (MAF) sensor (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/mass-airflow-sensor-replacement). This sensor is usually missed unless the computer sees it malfunctioning. Most of the time the MAF...

Hi there - the lack of heater function could have 5 causes: the engine is not getting up to correct temperature (center of the gauge) due to a malfunctioning thermostat (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/symptoms-of-a-bad-or-failing-thermostat), the heater control valve (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/symptoms-of-a-bad-or-failing-heater-control-valve) is not letting hot...

What is a normal sitting at a light coolant temp. Been going up to 218
Normally, the indicator (or pointer) on the engine temperature gauge should be in the "center", or lower. If your cooling gauge has numbers, the acceptable operating range is 195 to 215 degrees. Above or below that range, in normal engine...
