Q: Intermittent electrical shut down after start or during driving

asked by on November 30, 2016

Hi! My van has just started to shut off unexpectedly sometimes after starting, and once while driving. I've noticed when after starting this will happen more often when engaging accessories like the radio or fan/ac. After car stopped while driving, I was able to restart by pushing down on positive battery terminal (noticed small amount of white corrosion). In any case, while parked or driving, all power was lost to instrument panel, power steering, fuel pump, etc. Once I also noticed a "ticking" (like a timer) noise coming from near battery or fuse box. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

My car has 124000 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.
