Q: Intake manifold gasket for starter installation

asked by on

I got a quote from your mechanic for starter installation and i have a new starter. But they are asking i also buy intake manifold gasket which is not at all required for replacing the starter. can you advice?

It sounds like you have a Cadillac with a northstar engine. The starter is unfortunately located under the intake manifold on this engine. The intake manifold is required to be removed to even access the starter. The intake manifold gaskets are required to be replaced if the intake manifold is removed in order to prevent vacuum leaks. Consider YourMechanic for your starter replacement as it can be done from your home or office.
