Q: If there is not enough transmission fluid will that cause the transmission not to work properly and the oil smelling burnt?

asked by on December 17, 2016

I have a 96 Gmc Sierra 1500 v.8 5.7 350 200...? Miles. When i was at work i noticed it leaking oil but wasnt concerned since it had been doing that i just always made sure it had enough. When i was going home the transmission seemed like if it didnt want to work properly. I got home and checked the transmission fluid and it smelled burnt. Next morning i crancked up my truck but it didnt run anymore. I got under and removed the oil pan and it was about half of the pan full. The oil was dark, thick and smelled burnt. Since i guess it leaked most of the oil at work or coming home was that the cause of the transmission not working properly and the oil smelling burnt? Was that the reason it didnt run the next day?
