Q: if my car takes 4-5 sec to start is it the fuel pump?

asked by on

if my car takes 3-4 secs to start , is it the fuel pump?
My car has an automatic transmission.

Hello, thank you for writing in. A weak fuel pump is a great place to start. If the pump was failing, you may also experience issues while driving. If the fuel system is not keeping fuel available to the engine while off (for restarting purposes), you may also have a fuel pressure regulation issue. Attempt to start the car, but instead of turning the key to start, leave it in the "On" position for a few moments. This allows the pump to prime, and may ease starting. If it does help, then consider getting the fuel pressure tested before changing the fuel pump. For more help with this testing, contact our service department to schedule an appointment.
