Q: I want bigger tires with stock suspension but dont know which is best.

asked by on May 03, 2017

Ive got a 04 silverado extended cab 1500 z71 with bald 265/75r16 mud claws. I jacked up the torsion bars so she sits level at 37 inches from the ground to the bottom of the fenders. I want a better stance but dont have money for a lift. What would be the biggest tire that would fit but wont rub and looks good? I was thinking 285/75r16 mud claws but i wanted expert advice before i buy them and they dont fit. What do you think? Ive run these tires for 6 years and they have been good but im not liking how low it sits to the ground. Thank you.

Car turns off randomly
There can really be several reasons why your Ford Bronco II randomly turns off. While the information provided is a bit limited, I do have a good idea on where we can start. You are on the right track to...
Oil leak around distributor
This is common in these vehicles. There are two possibilities that come to mind. You could simply have a valve cover that is leaking. The repair is rather simple and requires the gasket to be replaced. The other possibility is...
battery keeps going flat when left overnight
You didn't indicate the age of the battery (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/how-long-does-a-car-battery-last). If the battery is "new" (less than 2.5 years old) and passes a load test, you should check for parasitic loads (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/how-to-diagnose-a-car-battery-drain_2). With all car accessories off and key out of...
Rough idle, missing, almost dies when in gear, shaking violently when driving in low speeds
Hi, thanks for writing in. I'd be happy to provide my insight. I recommend you have the engine checked for vacuum leaks, or and check if carbon is clogging the EGR valve (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/symptoms-of-a-bad-or-failing-exhaust-gas-recirculation-egr-valve). If you still cannot find the reason...
The truck intermittently, has a very rough idle, and runs rough, usually after warming up.
Hello. This can be caused by a number of different things. If this occurred right after you had gotten fuel then I would start by testing the fuel pressure. I would do this when the vehicle starts running poorly. It...
My car has several misfire codes and does not run properly.
Hi there. What prompted you to replace those particular parts? Did testing reveal a fault? This year model, along with its sister IS models, up to 2011 had a service campaign for cylinder misfires. The campaign did not cover the...
04 explorer when i push gas pedal makes weird thump thump sound when i go 40 or above mph
Thumps and clunks can be hard to diagnose from a desk. Particularly in a car with that many miles where anything could be wrong. It may be that you have a motor or transmission mount that is going bad. or...
My 2008 Honda accord keeps misfiring on cylinder 2 and i don’t know what to do.
If the plugs are new that is unlikely to be the cause of misfiring. Compression in the No. 2 cylinder should be tested because if you have low compression or a sticking valve in that cylinder, that could cause a...
Coolant leak coming from behind the radiator
The coolant leak can only be pinpointed after an inspection but a leaking hose in that location would not be unusual. Coolant leaks can sometimes be either a cause, or a consequence, of overheating. Be sure not to drive the...
