Q: I'm unsure about replacing my timing belt.

asked by on December 14, 2016

I've heard from a local mechanic that I've trusted that I should replace my timing belt on my car already. He stated that, due to my mileage (99000) and the fact that I've never had it replaced since I bought it at 33000 miles, it could burst soon or something & my engine wouldn't start anymore, leaving me in further-costing repairs. I'm now afraid to continue using it but I NEED it. He said that this is usual with these Mitsubishi cars. His charge for the whole job comes to $725 and I don't have that kind of money. My father in law says otherwise. He's a mechanic as well & says that there's no need for replacement and that I can still use it normally. I don't have the owners manual so I don't know what to do. Can you clear this up for me please?
