Q: I live in Wis. It was 7degrees. Drove on highway and my X5 was unstable like I had no traction at high speed. Tires good.

Live in Wisconsin. It was 7 degrees. Drive on highway and car felt like it was sliding and not stable traction. No shaking of steering wheel. Semi trucks and little cars all able to go 70mph. I could only go 40mph or car felt like I’d lose control. Tires only 20 miles on them. No unusual wearing. Car not bouncy or shaking. Just felt it sliding. Little control. Certified vehicle. Dealership doesn’t really know what the problem is. The car is only driven 10 k miles a year and kept in garage. Any thoughts? At low speed it seems to drive fine. Only above 40 does it seems like I’m driving on ice.

My car has 53000 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.

The brake pedal is low and hard to press, and my car does not brake well
It sounds like the brake booster (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/brake-booster-vacuum-sensor-replacement) is failing. The hissing sound you heard was air leaking through either a vacuum or vent valve in the brake booster itself. The valve failure prevents the booster from generating brake boost, making...
