Q: I just had my timing kit replaced and now my steering wheel vibrates when I'm turning and it's really noisy.

asked by on February 05, 2018

When I turn my car on it is very noisy, especially when cold. The noise (kind of like a groan) becomes louder when I turn my wheel and it vibrates/shakes. I was not having this issue before I had my timing belt/water pump done. I asked the mechanic and they said it's probably a leaking pinion (?) and a power steering issue. I'm wondering why it just started doing this after I got work done. I kind of asked the mechanic but he seemed like he didn't appreciate me asking.

My car has 225600 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.

It sounds like the issue is in the rear blower circuit. Check fuses (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/symptoms-of-a-bad-or-failing-fuse) 10 and 11 in the fuse block (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/symptoms-of-a-bad-or-failing-fuse-box) and also the rear blower relay, which supplies power to both of the fuses. The other possibilities are...

Loss of power when gas pedal is pressed all the way down, but only when the car is warm.
This may be a sign of a faulty ignition coil. Ignition coils (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/ignition-coil-replacement) are coated with a varnish-like insulation that becomes brittle over time after being stretched then contracted repeatedly. The insulation develops small fractures that open when heated and...
