I heard a pop then my 2008 Nissan Sentra started slowing down, I was still depressing the gas pedal & eventually it stopped as I pulled over on the side of the highway. I smelt smoke but didn't see a fire. When I had the vehicle towed, the tow driver pointed out that there was a puddle of oil left in the flatbed. When I tried to start the car after it was towed, it made a LOUD screeching noise... I have not tried to start it again.
