Q: Knocking sound

asked by on November 28, 2017

I had been traveling for a couple days and yesterday I was stopped at a red light and my oil light flickered so I pulled into the next gas station and put a quart of oil in. Everything was running fine no more lights so I continued to drive about 500 miles got out of the car for about 4 hours and came back. I started it up and started to drive about a half hour later it started making a knocking sound but no lights came on so I continued to drive as I reached my destination the knocking got worse. I added 2 more quarts of oil and haven’t drove it since. There is knocking now at idle

My car has 198000 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.
