The other day I had no forward gear, only reverse. Today when the tow truck driver came to pick it up to take to our regular mechanic he was able to drive it onto the flatbed. Apparently this problem must be related to the operating temperature, right? I had checked the trans fluid the day I had the problem and it was at the right level but looked dark. What's going on? Just needs service?

My car has 70000 miles.
