Q: I failed my emissions test and got a P0440 Diagnostic Code

asked by on January 25, 2017

My 2004 Honda Civic failed the E-Test and received a P0440 Evap code.

I am trying not to spend loads of money at the repair shop, I was told it would be over $100 just to run a diagnostic test to find out what the problem really is (not including the price to actually get the problem fixed).

I did some research online and decided to replace the gas tank cap as it was a possible solution, but the Engine light is still on, so I'm assuming that that didn't do anything.

Are there any other ways I can try doing this myself to figure out what is causing this? Not looking to fix it myself (unless I can) but more so looking to find the root of the problem and then bringing it into the shop to get it fixed specifically.

Thank you so much in advance! My car has an automatic transmission.
